The Wakes

The Wakes are a Glasgow-based Scottish punk and Irish folk rock group active since 2006. They release music on Drakkar Records and work in a style that mixes folk rock, folk punk and traditional Irish-influenced material.

Background

The band presents itself as Glasgow-Irish in outlook and subject matter, drawing on Scottish and Irish identity, heritage and local experience. Its songs cover immigration, unemployment, uprising and rebellion in Scotland, Ireland and elsewhere. Alongside original songs, the group performs traditional ballads and tunes, and its material aims to connect older Irish migration histories with people living in the present-day city.

Line-up

The Wakes include Paul on vocals and guitar; Chris Patrick on bass guitar, backing vocals, flute and saxophone; James on mandolin and whistle; Eamonn on drums; and Christopher James on harmonica and guitar.
