The Vinyls

The Vinyls are a United Kingdom group active from 2010 onwards. The name is used by more than one act, including a British rock band from Brighton and an alternative rock band from New Jersey, but the Brighton-based group is the one associated with this entry.

United Kingdom rock band

The British Vinyls form in Brighton and begin playing shows across the south of England from 2011. They build a live reputation through more than 100 gigs and describe their sound as combining elements associated with Elvis Costello, Pulp and the Beach Boys. Their songs are paired with a live set built around strong chorus lines, danceable rhythms and a high-energy performance style.

The band release the song “Victoria” as a free download through their Bandcamp page.

New Jersey alternative rock band

Another group called The Vinyls operates as an alternative rock band from New Jersey, United States. This line-up consists of Drew Duddy on vocals, Dave Ryan on guitar and vocals, Zach West on guitar and vocals, Dan Szpkawoski on bass, and Rick Szpakowski on drums. The members meet through the New Jersey music scene, with Drew and Dave starting the project, Rick joining after filling in for another band, Dan being Rick’s brother, and Zach and Rick already knowing each other.

The New Jersey band release their first EP in 2010 under the title extended play. Their music is described as honest, guitar-led alternative rock with catchy riffs, passionate lyrics and occasional synthesizer, and the band is compared with Jimmy Eat World and The Dangerous Summer.
