The Vegetable Orchestra is a group from Wien, Austria, active since 1998. It is known as Das erste Wiener gemüseorchester on its first album and is based in Vienna.

The ensemble includes 11 musicians, a sound engineer and a video artist. Its line-up listed in the group information includes Jürgen Berlakovich, Nikolaus Gansterer, Susanna Gartmayer, Barbara Kaiser, Matthias Meinharter, Jörg Piringer, Richard Repey, Ingrid Schlögl, Marie Steinauer, Ulrich Troyer and Tamara Wilhelm, with Christina Bauer on sound, Volker Piringer on video and Ernst Reitermaier in management. Barbara Kaiser and Ulrich Troyer are also named among the members.

The group’s approach brings together musicians, visual artists, architects, designers, media artists, writers and sound poets. It gives equal voting rights to all members in artistic, aesthetic and infrastructural decisions. Its performances combine a wide range of styles, including contemporary music, house, experimental electronic music, free jazz, noise, dub and clicks'n'cuts, with vegetable-made instruments often shaping the sound.

The Vegetable Orchestra performs concerts in Europe and Asia and sometimes gives workshops on making instruments and on musical topics. Concerts end with a video performance and an encore in the form of fresh vegetable soup.
