The Uppercuts

The Uppercuts are a Swedish punk group associated with street punk, ska and Oi, with an added indie influence in their sound. They form in March 2009, after Jamie and Mark, both previously of Layabout, begin working on material together. Wes joins on lead guitar and Steve, formerly of Allies, joins on bass to complete the line-up.

Background and style

The group develop a sound built from punk, ska, Oi and indie, and write material with melodic vocals and forceful instrumentals. Their early work includes songs such as “Never a Care” and “Bring on the Weekend”, which are intended for their debut album.

Live activity

After early recordings, The Uppercuts make their debut show supporting The Exposed at the World’s End in Finsbury Park. They also play with The Exposed again, appear alongside Glastonbury Veterans La Rebla Fam, and perform with punk group King Kurt. They play shows around the UK and build a following on the punk scene in the UK and overseas.

The Uppercuts work on songs for an album and continue writing material for their debut release.
