The Understudies

The Understudies are a group from the United Kingdom, active since 2008. They are described as a London collective with Scottish connections, and their music is presented in several overlapping forms and scenes.

Indie pop

As an indie pop act, The Understudies are made up of Brian, Bree, Graeme and Kris. Their sound is described as dreamy indie pop with a caustic wit, and is compared to Felt and Luke Haines.

Hip hop collective

The name is also used for a West Coast and Bay Area-based hip hop collective. That line-up includes Citizen, Self Advocate, Cobbo, Welsed, Manifest, Sean E Depp, Maintain, Myers and Venture Capitalists. Extended crew members include G, Poe Jangles and DJ MRC.

Other incarnation

The Understudies are also described as a Danish ska and rocksteady band, connected with people from Furillo and Babylove & the van Dangos, as well as people involved in Copenhagen Ska Convention.
