The Treacherous Orchestra
The Treacherous Orchestra is a Scottish group formed in 2004 to play the Celtic Connections Festival Club in Glasgow. It brings together musicians who are active across a range of Scottish folk and world-music acts, and the line-up includes Ross Ainslie, Éamonn Coyne, Ali Hutton, Duncan Lyall, Kevin O'Neill, Martin O'Neill, Barry "Spad" Reid, John Somerville, Fraser Stone, Adam Sutherland and Innes Watson.
Membership and instrumentation
John Somerville plays accordion; Kevin O'Neill plays flute and whistles; Adam Sutherland plays fiddle; Innes Watson plays fiddle and vocals; Ali Hutton plays pipes and whistles; Ross Ainslie plays pipes and whistles; Éamonn Coyne plays banjo and mandolin; Barry "Spad" Reid plays electric guitar; Duncan Lyall plays double bass; and Fraser Stone is also part of the group. The project also includes Martin O'Neill.
Background
The group is known for drawing on players with links to acts such as Box Club, Rule of Three, Samling, Peatbog Faeries, Old Blind Dogs, Salsa Celtica and the Dougie MacLean Band. It is based in Scotland and is associated with folk and traditional music.
