The Timelords is a British group name associated with a single recording, “Doctorin’ the Tardis”. The act records one single under this name and is also linked with the aliases The KLF and The Justified Ancients of Mu Mu, used by Bill Drummond and Jimmy Cauty. The group is from the United Kingdom.

Recording history

“Doctorin’ the Tardis” is a mash-up built from the Doctor Who theme, “Blockbuster” by The Sweet, and “Rock and Roll Part 2” by Gary Glitter. The song reaches number one in the UK in the summer of 1988. Gary Glitter is said to respond positively to the record and a version with his vocals, “Gary in the Tardis,” is also released.

In 1989, Drummond and Cauty publish The Manual (How to Have a Number One the Easy Way), a tongue-in-cheek book connected with their work under this name and their wider activities as The KLF and The JAMs.
