The Throbs

The Throbs are a glam rock and punk group from Hamilton, Canada, also associated with New York. They are active from the 1980s until 1991 and are one of two bands with the same name, but this version is the 1980s punk and glam band from Hamilton and New York.

History and style

The band is made up of vocalist Sweetheart, guitarist Roger Ericson, bassist Danny Nordahl, and drummer Ronnie Magri. Their sound draws on the New York Dolls school of glam rock, with a touch of psychedelia, and they are described as being presented as New York's answer to Guns N' Roses. Despite that comparison, their style is closer to glam rock with punk influence than to hard rock in the Guns N' Roses mould.

Recording and release

Geffen Records places a major emphasis on the band and Bob Ezrin produces their debut album, The Language of Thieves and Vagabonds. The record appears in 1991. The first single, "Come Down Sister," receives radio and MTV attention, but the album does not gain commercial traction. The group then breaks apart and is gone by early 1992.
