The Thorn

The Thorn is a death metal group from Phoenix, Arizona, active since 2020. The band is also associated with death-doom metal, doom metal and metal. Earlier information in its history identifies the group as previously using the names Cranthorpe and Thorn, and as being active in its present form since the end of 2004.

History and recordings

The Thorn begins work on its album Hermitage of non-divine… at the same time as it starts recording in late 2004. After finishing the session in October 2005, it issues the Promo 2005 EP while looking for a label for the full-length release. In April 2008 the band signs with the independent label Psycho Records for the album’s publication. The album is described by the band as technical thrash with death metal elements, melody and varied arrangements, and it receives strong reviews in music press and zines, where it is described as unconventional, varied, ambitious and technically strong.

In February 2009 the band records the EP The First Step To Insanity, which contains three new songs. At that point it also has material ready for a full-length release and is looking for help with recording and publishing it.
