The Swellers

The Swellers are a punk band from Fenton, Michigan, formed in 2002 and active from 2002 to the present. Their music is fast and melodic, with strong influence from 1990s skate punk. The group are associated with pop punk, punk rock, melodic punk and melodic hardcore.

Early releases and label history

The band self-releases its first two EPs, Long And Hard in 2002 and End of Discussion in 2003. In 2005, The Beginning of the End Again appears on Search and Rescue Records in the US and Radtone Music in Japan. Their debut full-length album, My Everest, follows in 2007 on Search and Rescue Records. The band later works with Fueled by Ramen, then leaves that label in 2012. It self-releases the EP Running out of Places to Go in 2012 and signs to No Sleep Records in 2013.

Line-up

The band’s lineup includes Nick Diener on guitar and lead vocals, Jonathan Diener on drums and backing vocals, Ryan Collins on guitar and Anto Boros on bass. Past members listed include Garrett Burgett, Lance Nelson, Nate Lamberts, Nick Ondovcsik and Brad Linden.

Touring and appearances

The Swellers play the Vans Warped Tour in 2005 and later tour in Japan after the Japanese release of The Beginning of the End Again. They also tour widely in the US and Canada with acts including Less Than Jake, Streetlight Manifesto, A Wilhelm Scream, Polar Bear Club, Crime In Stereo, Set Your Goals, Four Year Strong, Broadway Calls, Living With Lions and Fireworks. The band supports Paramore on the Brand New Eyes tour, later tours with Motion City Soundtrack on the My Dinosaur Life tour, plays shows in Europe with Anti-Flag, and opens for The Early November, with The Wonder Years and Young Statues also appearing on that run.

Later activity

After the band’s planned split in 2015, Nick Diener produces albums by Hot Mulligan and Much The Same. Jonathan Diener also plays drums in No Trigger and fronts the band Baggage.
