The Strumbellas

The Strumbellas are a Canadian group from Lindsay, Ontario, active since 2008 and based in Toronto. Their line-up includes David Ritter and Simon Ward. Their music is described as folk rock, indie rock, pop rock and rock, and has also been characterised as alternative country and gothic folk.

The band releases My Father And The Hunter as its debut album in 2012. The following year, We Still Move On Dance Floors brings them six awards, including a JUNO Award and a Sirius XM Indie Award, and places them on the Polaris Music Prize long list. Their songs are noted for combining sombre lyrics with memorable, sing-along melodies and danceable arrangements.

Spirits is issued as the first single from a later album project and draws particular attention for its chorus-led appeal. Around 2015, the band records at Toronto’s Lincoln County Social Club with producer and engineer Dave Schiffman, whose credits include work with Johnny Cash, Haim and Weezer.
