The Straits
The name The Straits is used by two different bands: one from the Netherlands and one from the UK.
The Netherlands band
The Dutch Straits form in June 2005. Most of the members already know one another before the group comes together, and Patrik Muller and Wilko Stroo join through what is described as a chance meeting. The band says it does not aim to create a new genre, but to find and perform what it sees as the perfect pop song. Its influences include Oasis, The Beatles and The Stone Roses. The group describes its music in terms of chemistry, energy and a smile in the songs.
The UK band
The UK Straits centre on three former members of Dire Straits: Alan Clark, Phil Palmer and Chris White. The group tours to perform songs associated with Dire Straits. On the road it is supported by Steve Ferrone, Terence Reis, Mick Feat and Jamie Squire.
