The Spitters

The Spitters are a New York noise rock group active in the mid-1990s. The line-up consists of Mark Ashwill on vocals, Tim Bradlee on guitar, Bill Bronson on bass and Louis Echavarria on drums. Ashwill is described as a former Missing Foundation drummer.

Style and development

The group begins with a stripped-down sound that draws on the Birthday Party and Pussy Galore, then moves towards a heavier noise-rock approach associated with Swans. Their work is identified with an EP that shows the earlier minimalist side and Sun To Sun, which shows the later, denser style.

Performances

The Spitters are also known for a violent stage show. Performances are described as especially intense, with Ashwill often ending shows covered in blood.
