The Sorcerers

The Sorcerers are an ethio-jazz group from Leeds. They draw on Ethiopiques-style ethio-jazz and on the soundtracks of European horror films from the 1960s and 1970s, combining those influences into a single sound. The group is based in Leeds, which is also the home of ATA Records.

The line-up includes Neil Innes and Pete Williams, and the band is made up of players from the city’s jazz and world music scene. They form part of the ATA Records house band.

Their instrumentation includes bass clarinet, flute and vibraphone alongside bass, guitar, organ and drums. Their sound is described in terms of Ellingtonian textures set over a steady rhythmic base.
