The Social Order

The Social Order are a three-piece band from Edinburgh, formed in 2013. The group centres on singer and guitarist Sam Morris, who writes the songs and shapes the band’s sound.

Formation and line-up

Sam Morris starts the band after spending time in various other groups and working solo as a singer-songwriter. He brings in drummer Dave Bellingham, a friend and technically proficient player, and later adds bass player Raymond Taylor. The line-up remains a trio.

Style and releases

The band’s music ranges across alt-country, indie-dance and straightforward three-chord rock’n’roll, with a country-rock edge. Their first EP, Wave Rider, is released in 2014. The title track is a rock’n’roll song with a dub-style middle-eight breakdown, while “Too Rare To Die” leans towards indie-dance rock and includes French horns and trumpets.

Activity

The Social Order build a live reputation through accessible, catchy songs and also perform an acoustic session for the internet radio station Radio Saltire. They take part in Verden Studio’s Sound of 2014 programme and gain attention around their debut EP.
