The Smith Street Band
The Smith Street Band are a Melbourne folk punk and rock group, active since 2010. They begin as a backing band for Wil Wagner’s solo work in 2009 and take their name as a reference to Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. The group is based in Melbourne, Victoria, and the title Smith Street refers to a street in the city.
The band currently includes Wil Wagner on vocals and guitar, Lee Hartney on lead guitar and vocals, Michael “Fitzy” Fitzgerald on bass, Lucy Wilson on keyboards, guitar and vocals, Jess Locke on guitar and vocals, and Matt Bodiam on drums. The verified membership also includes Tom Lawson and Jimi O’Loughlin.
They build a following through constant touring and a grass-roots online community. Their tours take them across Australia, the United States, Europe and China, and they perform with acts including Bomb the Music Industry!, Frank Turner and Lagwagon.
Their first release is the seven-inch South Side Facing Wall, later issued as an EP. They go on to release the albums No-One Gets Lost Anymore in 2011, Sunshine & Technology in 2012, Throw Me in the River in 2014 and More Scared of You Than You Are of Me in 2017. In 2013 they release the 10-inch EP Don't Fuck with Our Dreams on Poison City Records.
