The Skalinskis
The Skalinskis are a folk, dub, ska and punk collective based in Stoke-on-Trent. They are described as a band of itinerant figures who play in underground settings and tell stories of home while performing for food and drink. Their music combines eastern European folk influences with upbeat dub and ska, and their sound includes driving lyrics, a tight rhythm and a three-piece brass section.
Line-up and history
The group has been active for over ten years and has had different members at various times. Steve Skalinski and Nick Skalinski are the long-standing core members, present since the beginning. Around 2009, the band is a six-piece ensemble.
Recordings
The Skalinskis have released several albums, including The Hardline of Eastern Bloc Ska, Kissing the Monkey, Gentlemen prefer thongs and Ba-Da-Boom!!!. The 2007 album Ba-Da-Boom!!! includes “The King Tut Strut”, which becomes a YouTube sensation.
