The Scribes

The Scribes are a UK new wave hip hop group based in the South West. The line-up is a four-piece built around co-lyricists Ill Literate and Loki Steele, with DJ and producer Spinz and human beatbox performer Lacey completing the group. They form in 2003.

Releases

The group releases its first record, the six-track The Evolution EP, on London label Unsung Records in 2005. Its first full-length album, The Sky Is Falling, follows on Unsung Records in 2008 and features MC Lars. The group also releases the single “Raindance”.

Performance and activity

The Scribes build a reputation for live performance, with freestyling and beatbox elements forming part of the show. After the release of The Sky Is Falling, they tour the UK at universities and club venues and also perform on the continent in Europe. They remain active and continue working in the studio while also appearing at events.
