The Saturdays are a London, United Kingdom pop group active from 2007 to 2014. The line-up consists of Una Healy, Mollie King, Frankie Sandford, Vanessa White and Rochelle Wiseman. They are associated with dance-pop and pop, and release music through Fascination.

Formation and name

The group forms in 2007 in the United Kingdom. Their name comes from the idea that it sounds lively and different from other girl band names, without directly referring to their gender.

Recording career

The Saturdays make their recording debut in 2007 on Fascination Records, a subdivision of Polydor Records. Their debut album, Chasing Lights, produces five UK Top 25 singles. The album includes the singles If This Is Love, Up, Issues, Just Can’t Get Enough and Work.

If This Is Love enters the UK singles chart at number 8 and reaches number 33 on the Eurochart Hot 100 singles. Up reaches number 5 in the UK, number 11 in Ireland and number 15 on the Eurochart Hot 100 singles, and is certified Silver. Issues reaches number 4 in the UK, number 14 in Ireland and number 21 in Europe. Just Can’t Get Enough is the group’s Comic Relief single in 2009 and is a cover of the Depeche Mode song, reaching number 2 in the UK. Work reaches number 22 in the UK.

Chasing Lights enters the UK album chart at number 11, peaks at number 9 and is certified Platinum. It also charts in Ireland and Europe. The album is re-released with the Comic Relief single included.

Second album

Their second album, Wordshaker, is released in 2009. Its first single, Forever Is Over, reaches number 2 in the UK and number 9 in Ireland. The follow-up single, Ego, is released in 2010.

Tours and live work

The band’s first headlining UK tour, The Work Tour, takes place in June 2009.
