The Rotted
The Rotted is a British death metal and grindcore group active from 2008 to 2014. The band forms from the remains of Gorerotted and moves toward a sound that combines death metal with grindcore and a stronger punk and D-beat influence.
Formation and line-up
The group begins with ex-members of Gorerotted: Ben McCrow, Tim Carley and Phil Wilson. Gian Pyres, who has previously played with Cradle Of Filth, Christian Death and Screamin' Daemon, also joins, along with Nate Gould, formerly of Screamin' Daemon. The band later states that The Rotted and Gorerotted are separate entities, rather than a simple continuation of the earlier group.
By July 2008, Phil Wilson leaves for personal reasons, with his final appearance taking place at Wacken Open Air. He is replaced by Reverend Trudgill, the former frontman of Screamin' Daemon. Later in 2009, the band continues as a four-piece after parting ways with Gian Pyres. The authorised line-up also includes Ben McCrow and Gian Pyres, and the act is a group from the United Kingdom.
Releases and recording
The Rotted's debut album, Get Dead or Die Trying, is released in 2008. It includes two instrumental tracks, one of which is A Brief Moment Of Regret, and also features a cover of the theme music from the British horror film 28 Days Later. The instrumental track A Brief Moment Of Regret is later used in the playlist of a high street clothing store during the summer of 2008.
In July 2010, the band releases the self-financed, self-released EP Anarchogram. In early 2011, it records a second full-length album at Parlour Studios with producer Russ Russell, with Candlelight Records set to issue the album. Candlelight Records is the listed label for the group.
Touring and festival appearances
After a short UK tour in July 2008 with Ted Maul, the band appears at Wacken Open Air, Dynamo, Elsrock and Summer Breeze Open Air in the same year. It then plays club shows across the UK and Germany toward the end of 2008.
In April 2009, The Rotted headlines a tour with Malefice and Anterior as part of the Metal Blade Assault tour. Festival appearances that year include Bloodstock, Hellfire and Hammerfest in the UK, Chaos Emergente in Portugal and Headbang in the Netherlands. In December 2009, it tours with Alestorm in Scotland.
Further live activity follows in 2010, including UK shows with Man Must Die and Sworn Amongst, European dates with Misery Index, Grave and Arsis, and three headline shows in Israel with The Fading. In July 2011, the band confirms festival dates will continue after Tim Carley suffers a finger injury shortly before Obscene Extreme Festival.
Style
The Rotted describes its music as death metal with a punk and D-beat element, moving away from the more restricted lyrical approach associated with Gorerotted. Its listed styles include death metal, grindcore, brutal death metal, deathgrind and British metal.
