The Riot Act is a United States punk rock band associated with pop punk and melodic punk. The group forms in 2008 after Paul and Will return to the United States following a year studying abroad and decide to start a band. They begin planning and writing before meeting at Paul’s house in Chicago to work out the project’s direction.

The line-up settles after some changes in the rhythm section. Rob “the Reaper” Foley plays drums and Dan Dryden plays bass guitar. The group is linked with Ann Arbor, Michigan in the band’s own account, while also being identified as a US band from Wisconsin in other supplied information.
