The Retrospective Soundtrack Players are a rock group from Hampshire who begin in 2010 and remain active. They build their sets around songs inspired by their favourite films, books and other media, performing material linked to specific cultural works rather than a standard mixed repertoire.

Career

The group’s breakthrough comes when they win a competition to appear as an unsigned artist on Frank Turner’s Try This At Home 7-inch and digital single. They are then signed by Xtra Mile in 2010. Their first album follows in 2011, and it is based on songs written about frontman Kyle’s favourite film, Cool Hand Luke. The band writes that record in a single week as a challenge. In 2012 they release The Catcher In The Rye, and in 2013 they play the main stage at 2000trees festival. Their next album is a Christmas release in 2014.
