The Retros

The Retros are a United Kingdom power pop group that is also described as a punk band from St. Louis. They are active in the late 1970s and early 1980s, with a brief existence between 1978 and 1981.

History

The group does not issue any official releases during its original lifespan. It makes at least two attempts at recording, including a studio session in spring 1979 that comes out of leftover time after a friend’s studio recording class exam at Webster University. In that session, the band records twelve original songs live in the studio, using the full block of time and not stopping for playback.

The tape is then kept in the closet of the band’s soundman and manager, Don Hollenbeck, and remains unheard for nearly three decades. In 2012, BDR/Rerun Records releases that previously unreleased 1979 studio session.
