The Real Tuesday Weld

The Real Tuesday Weld are a British group from the United Kingdom, based in London and active since 2000. The line-up includes Stephen Coates, Clive Painter, Don Brosnan and David Guez. Coates fronts the group as lead singer and also founds it.

Style and name

The band makes music that combines cabaret, jazz elements and subtle electronica. Coates describes the style as “antique beat”. Their sound sits within electronic, electronica, indie pop and pop, and they are also associated with indie, alternative, British, cabaret and avant-garde music.

The group takes its name from American film actress Tuesday Weld. Coates says a dream involving Weld and 1930s vocalist Al Bowlly inspires the band’s name and helps shape its approach and style.
