The Raw Kings

The Raw Kings form in 2008 as a Glasgow rock and roll band made up of former members of The Gems and The Woo Woo Witches. The Gems have support slots with Electric Six and Snow Patrol, while The Woo Woo Witches are described as a Glasgow-based rock and roll act. The band begins by booking time in a local studio and develops its own rock and roll sound.

Live activity and residency

The Raw Kings play a series of festivals and events, including Live at Loch Lomond, The Wickerman on the Summer Isle main stage, The Wee Chill, Glasgow West End Festival, The Fringe, The Edge Festival, Canterbury Festival and Happy Valley Festival in Kilkenny, Ireland. In October 2009 they start a monthly residency called Under The Influence at Gallus, a pub venue in Glasgow’s west end. The residency grows into a regular night that features performers from Glasgow and beyond.

Recordings and releases

In July 2010 the band records its debut album at Riverside Studios in Glasgow, later licensed to Mister Tramp and released in January the following year. In August 2012 they finish recording a second album, As Long As It Takes, after which Scott leaves to live in Australia. As Long As It Takes is released in January 2013.

Tours and support slots

The Raw Kings tour Ireland and support The Alabama 3, The Charlatans, Goldie Lookin Chain, The Futureheads and Chas and Dave. They also continue writing and demoing new material and rehearsing for future shows.

Reception

The band receives praise from festival and music press, with descriptions that place its sound in a retro-futurist rock and roll style and highlight its strong melodies and harmonies.
