The Primals

The Primals are a Los Angeles rock band made up of John Henry and Chad Fjerstad. Henry is the group’s vocalist and guitarist and is also known for singing in Darkest Hour. Fjerstad plays bass and previously performs with Dead To Fall. The band also includes drummer Andrew Black, who has played with The Explosion and Title Tracks.

The group’s sound combines heavy guitar parts with strong pop elements, and it sits across rock, stoner rock, alternative rock, grunge and garage rock. Its members come from established punk and metal backgrounds, including the D.C. punk scene, which informs the band’s heavy, rough-edged style.

Another act uses the same name: a Japanese project led by Masayoshi Soken that performs music from Final Fantasy XIV in a metal arrangement. The Los Angeles band is the one associated with Henry, Fjerstad and Black.
