The Pharmacy
The Pharmacy are a psychedelic indie punk band from Seattle, Washington, active from 2002. The group centres on Scott Yoder, who sings lead vocals and plays guitar, Brendhan Bowers, who plays drums and provides backing vocals, and Stefan Rubicz, who plays keyboards and provides backing vocals. They also record with a wider range of instruments, including strings, horns and various synthesizers and keyboards, and they sometimes perform live with cellist Calvin Havnaer.
History
The band forms on Vashon Island, Washington, in 2002, when Yoder and Bowers start the group after leaving the indie twee-pop band The Terror-Dactyls. They begin the project while still at high school, in their freshman and junior years. Their early sound draws on Nirvana, The Unicorns, The Beatles and Andrew W.K., beginning as a rough mix of garage rock and punk before developing into a danceable pop style.
After releasing a tape and 7-inch on their own Prescription Records, they issue their first full-length album, B.F.F., through Don't Stop Believin' Records. That recording features Yoder on vocals and guitar, Joey Seward on keyboards and bass, and Bowers on drums. After graduating from high school on Vashon, the band moves to Seattle and Olympia, and continues playing while Bowers attends Evergreen College in Olympia.
