Long time friends Neil Robinson (drums), Gary Crockett (bass), John Willmott (sax and flute), and legendary latin percussionist and band leader Snowboy formed The Perceptions to express their mutual love of the late-60's Funk Jazz sound of labels such as Prestige and Blue Note. Enlisting the talents of Speedometer band-leader Leigh Gracie on guitar and the amazing young Italian jazz recording artist Sam Gambarini on Hammond Organ, the band is now complete.
With a family tree that includes core members of The James Taylor Quartet, The Sound Stylistics, Speedometer, Lisa Stansfield, Incognito, Mark Ronson and The Superphonics (and of course Snowboy!) the band have put in a world-class performance as only the most experienced Funk Specialists can. They have delivered an album of original, tough, hard, uncompromising Tenor Sax and Organ-led Funk Jazz, typical of Prestige and Blue Note (a sound which takes in touches of Blues and James Brown too). They make no concessions to music fashions by doing Funky novelty cover versions, and the album was lovingly recorded on tape with vintage equipment for authenticity.
