The Peacocks

The Peacocks are a Swiss punk rock band from Winterthur, active since 1990. Their early line-up includes Hasu Langhard on vocals and guitar, Simon Langhard on upright bass and Jürg Luder on drums. The group is associated with punk, psychobilly, rockabilly, punkabilly and ska, and it begins with a rockabilly-led, poppy psychobilly sound that features many cover versions.

History

The band’s first show takes place in 1990. After a few birthday-party performances, the group briefly breaks up when Michi leaves. It restarts a year later when Simon Langhard, Hasu Langhard’s brother, joins on double bass. This line-up lasts for about five years and records several seven-inch releases as well as the first album, Come With Us, while also playing more than 100 shows.

Before the first US and Canada tour, Adi leaves the band. The tour still goes ahead because David, another brother, knows the songs and fills in on drums. After the tour, Toni joins as drummer.

Releases and touring

By around 1997, The Peacocks tour widely, including Japan, the US, Canada and countries across Europe. During this period they record In Without Knocking and Angel. Angel leads to a signing with Asian Man Records.

Toni leaves in early 2002 and Jürg Luder joins later that year. In 2004 the band releases It’s Time For… on five record labels across five countries and three continents. In 2006 Hairball 8 Records issues a best-of compilation for the US market, followed by a tour through 14 states. The group then stays in the US to record Touch And Go at Sonic Iguana in Lafayette, Indiana.
