The Original Rabbit Foot Spasm Band

The Original Rabbit Foot Spasm Band is a UK seven-piece blues group based in Oxford and active since 2006. The band performs original material shaped by New Orleans rhythm and blues, Trinidadian calypso and jump blues.

Origins and style

The group is originally founded by Stuart Macbeth as a three-piece spasm band playing jazz and skiffle on homemade banjos, ukuleles and washboards. Its later seven-piece line-up keeps the same broad roots in early jazz, skiffle and blues-based dance music.

Releases

The band releases a limited-edition LP, Gin & Sympathy, in 2009. Its debut full-length album, Year of the Rabbit, appears in 2011, followed by the single Greg's Greats Record Shop on wax cylinder in 2012. In 2013 the band launches its own cider brand and releases Party Seven on the Jump Steady label.

Live appearances

The band tours widely in the UK and appears at venues and festivals including Glastonbury, Bestival, Ronnie Scott's, the Royal Albert Hall and the Royal Festival Hall in London.
