The Ones

The Ones are a United States electronic and house group from New York City, made up of Paul Alexander, Jo-Jo Americo and Nashom Wooden. All three members work as vocalists, and they meet while working at the Greenwich Village boutique Patricia Field. They also have backgrounds in DJing, performing and styling within the underground New York club and fashion scenes.

Flawless and early success

The group is best known for the single “Flawless”, which becomes a club record in New York before its official release and reaches number 7 in the UK. The track is produced by A Touch of Class and is inspired by the 1999 film in which Nashom appears alongside Robert De Niro. In 2004, George Michael samples “Flawless” and adds new lyrics for “Flawless (Go to the City)”, which reaches number 8 in the UK, giving the song a second hit version in Britain.

Later singles and activity

After “Flawless”, The Ones release “Superstar”, which reaches number 45 in the UK. In November 2006 they release “Ultramodern” with a music video and associated clips. The video is banned from television. The group signs to Peacebisquit management in 2007, then changes its look and sound for “When We Get Together” in 2008. That release includes cameo appearances from Scissor Sisters, Debbie Harry, Jody Watley, Fischerspooner, Ultra Naté, Cazwell and Colton Ford.
