The Octopus Project
The Octopus Project is an Austin-based experimental electronic group that forms in 1999 and remains active. Its sound combines digital and electronic textures with pop and experimental elements, and it uses drum machine, keyboards, synthesizers and other devices alongside guitars and live drums. The group is mostly instrumental, although tracks such as “Queen”, “Moon Boil” and “Wet Gold” include vocals.
Style and instrumentation
The band’s recordings and performances feature a mix of electronic and analogue equipment, including theremin, samplers and glockenspiel as well as guitars and drums. The theremin is a recurring feature in its music, and Yvonne Lambert is one of the musicians in the group known for playing it regularly. The members also switch instruments during live performances, with each player covering more than one role.
