The Moth

The Moth is a group from Sweden with a name also used by a separate storytelling collective in New York. In this context, it is listed as a sludge metal act with one member, Martin Öhman.

Sludge metal act

The band forms in 2012 in Hamburg, Germany and works in sludge metal and stoner metal. Its debut release is They Fall, which appears in mid-2013 on This Charming Man Records. The group’s sound is described as drawing on riff-led rock and roll as well as aggressive metal, with comparisons made to Baroness, Mastodon and Kylesa.

Storytelling collective

The Moth is also the name of a media collective based in New York, founded in 1997 by poet and novelist George Dawes Green. It focuses on storytelling and spoken word, and releases a range of related podcasts. Green says he intended it to evoke the atmosphere of summer evenings in Georgia, when moths gather around porch lights as people tell stories.
