The Mighty Diamonds

The Mighty Diamonds are a reggae and roots reggae vocal trio from Trenchtown, Jamaica, formed in 1969. The group consists of Lloyd “Judge” Ferguson, Donald “Tabby” Shaw and Fitzroy “Bunny” Simpson, and performs as a long-running Jamaican harmony act.

Career

The group develops a strong reputation in the 1970s, with major success in 1976 through the song “Right Time”. During this period, they are associated with the Channel One studio and record label on Maxfield Avenue in Jamaica.

They continue to record and release notable music in later years, including “Pass the Kouchie” in 1982. That track is built on an updated version of the Studio One instrumental “Full Up”, and it later becomes widely known through “Pass the Dutchie”, the cover version by the English group Musical Youth.

The Mighty Diamonds are linked with other Jamaican harmony groups such as The Heptones and The Gladiators. Their work sits within reggae and roots reggae, with a focus on vocal trio harmony.
