The Mattson 2

The Mattson 2 is a duo from the United States made up of twin brothers Jared Mattson and Jonathan Mattson. Jared Mattson plays guitar and uses loops, while Jonathan Mattson plays drums. The group is signed to Galaxia Records, a Santa Cruz-based label that also releases work by John Herndon of Tortoise, Will Oldham of Bonnie Prince Billy and Tommy Guerrero.

Releases and collaborations

In March 2007, The Mattson 2 release Ray Barbee Meets The Mattson 2 in Japan. The record is a collaboration with Ray Barbee, combining the duo’s style with Barbee’s music. Barbee first gains wider recognition as one of the first well-known African-American skaters of the 1980s before later becoming a musician.

Performances

The Mattson 2 perform in locations including São Paulo and Santos in Brazil, Copenhagen, Hryvalla in Finland, and across the United States. Their US performances include New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Michigan, South Dakota, North Dakota, Oregon, Washington, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Maine, Martha’s Vineyard, Florida and Texas. They also play in several Japanese cities, including Tokyo, Nagoya, Yokohama, Shizuoka, Osaka, Fukuoka, Okayama and Kamakura.
