The Little Kicks

The Little Kicks are an indie-disco-pop band from Aberdeen, based in Scotland. They perform as a four-piece and build their sound around upbeat indie pop songs and a reputation for live shows.

Releases and recording

The band’s debut album, Boxing Clever, is released in 2009 and receives critical attention in the Scottish and UK music press. It also attracts coverage on European and American blog and online radio sites. The band later issues a free download single, Call Of Youth, which receives airplay on BBC Radio 1, Radio 2 and BBC 6 Music. Their second album, The Little Kicks, follows in 2011 as a self-released record and is reviewed positively in print and online, including by the NME.

Live work and radio

The Little Kicks tour across the UK several times and also play shows in Japan and Germany. They appear at festivals including T in the Park, Belladrum, Insider and Connect, along with other major Scottish music festivals. The band also records live sessions for XFM and BBC Radio Scotland, and receives national radio play from Steve Lamacq and Tom Robinson.

Club nights and DJ sets

Alongside their band activity, they run and DJ at their own weekly club night, The Dirty Hearts Club (DHC), which passes its fifth birthday in January 2011. Guest DJs include MSTRKRFT, Liquid Liquid, Optimo, Holy Ghost, Juan Maclean, Hot Chip and Franz Ferdinand. The band later winds down DHC in August 2011 and starts a monthly night called Loosen Up!. They also DJ at T in the Park for two years, headlining the Friday late-night after-party field.

Collaborations and shared bills

The Little Kicks share stages with Foals, The Vaccines, Frightened Rabbit, Glasvegas, Maximo Park, Mystery Jets, Errors, The Kooks, Editors and The Maccabees, among others. They also perform in stripped-back acoustic settings as well as in club-night formats.
