The Listening
The Listening is a rock band from the United States, originally formed in Washington and later based in Franklin, Tennessee. The group is active from 2004 and works across Christian, indie and alternative styles, with psychedelic rock and progressive rock also associated with its sound.
Career
The band tours extensively in North America and Europe between 2004 and 2006, then becomes less visible for a period before reappearing in 2008 with plans for a new EP. Its members continue to work together remotely, exchanging ideas and instrument tracks online. A full-length album titled LMNOP is also in development.
Musical style and comparisons
The Listening is noted for songs that often run for more than five minutes and for arrangements that move away from standard short-form rock writing. Its sound includes catchy riffs, hooks and licks, but it is also described as creating a dreamy, worship-focused atmosphere. The band is compared to Pink Floyd because of its interest in longer compositions rather than three- or four-minute songs.
Members and later activities
Gabriel Wilson is a member of the group and becomes Director of Worship Arts at Lakeside Church in Folsom, California. Josiah and Nolan remain in Tennessee, while Jason lives in Folsom, California.
