The Led

The Led are a South African rock band from Cape Town. They form at Stellenbosch University around 1994, where the members meet as students. The name comes from the members’ intended fields of study: law, engineering and medicine. Using the first letter of each field, they create the acronym LED and adopt it as the band’s name.

The band exists from the mid-1990s to the early 2000s and has a place in the development of South African rock, with later acts building on the scene that follows. It is described as having some popularity in its own period. Its releases include the EPs
