The Kittiwakes

The Kittiwakes are a British folk group from the United Kingdom, active from 2007 onwards. They form as a three-piece band and centre on the songs and arrangements of Kate Denny.

Line-up

The group includes Kate Denny on vocals and violin, Chris Harrison on accordion, and Jill Cumberbatch on violin, mandolin and guitar. Harrison also plays piano and other instruments.

Formation and background

The band forms in 2007 to perform and arrange compositions written by Denny after a visit to the Lofoten Islands in Norway. Denny already knows Harrison through their work in music education in Greenwich and Lewisham. Cumberbatch joins after an advert is placed on the musician website Musofinder.

Activity

The Kittiwakes later split during the writing of a second album.
