The Kirkland Turn are a group built around Daryl Kirkland’s expressive guitar playing and weathered voice, with Katie Kirkland adding a spare two-drum setup and trumpet lines. Cousin Ian Wallhead plays bass, giving the band a low-key, restrained foundation.

Style and sound

Their music is described as hushed and psalm-like, with a jagged dark edge. The arrangement combines minimal drums, trumpet and bass with rough-edged home recordings, creating a sound that is both understated and tense.

Releases

The Kirkland Turn issue their recordings on their own BadJack Recordings label.
