The Interbeing

The Interbeing is an industrial metal group from Copenhagen, Denmark, formed in 2006 and active since then. The band combines Scandinavian metal with electronic textures, drawing on tight, aggressive, melodic and atmospheric elements. Its sound is described as bringing together the polyrhythmic complexity associated with Meshuggah, the melodic side of Soilwork, the sombre electronic atmosphere of Massive Attack and Amon Tobin, and the industrial metal approach associated with Fear Factory.

History

The band is created in 2006. In 2008, it receives a nomination for Talent of the Year at the Danish Metal Awards. In 2010, it wins Best Metal Act at the Underground Music Awards.

Its debut album, Edge of the Obscure, is released in 2011 through Mighty Music and Target Distribution. The record helps establish the band as a defined and ambitious act. It receives strong reviews in Denmark and internationally, including a 5-out-of-6-star review from GAFFA and praise from Aarhus Stiftstidende, which calls it a futuristic metal achievement. The album also tops critic Keld Rud’s list of the best metal albums of 2011 in GAFFA.

Style and themes

The band’s lyrics centre on a fictional inner being that moves through dystopian worlds before reaching the “edge of the obscure”. Its music pairs heavy guitar work with electronic soundscapes, creating a dark and cinematic atmosphere.

Live work and recognition

After the debut album, the band receives attention from major metal media in Europe, including Hard Rock in France, Legacy in Germany and Metal Hammer in the UK. Metal Hammer UK also selects the group for its showcase at SXSW in Austin, Texas, and comments on its international importance. The Interbeing performs extensively in 2011 and is presented as a strong live act with a detailed stage performance approach. It then begins its first official tour after the album, called the “Tour of the Obscure”, covering eight leading club venues in Denmark. The band also heads a stage at Copenhell alongside acts including Meshuggah, Slayer, Marilyn Manson, Lamb of God and Mastodon.
