The In Crowd

The In Crowd are a reggae group from Kingston, Jamaica, associated with the late 1970s showband scene. The line-up includes Fil Callendar, Clevie Browne, Errol Walker, Egbert Evans and Barry Bailey. Callender leads on vocals and lead guitar, while Walker provides lead vocals, Browne plays drums and sings, and Evans and Bailey form the horn section. The group also includes Tony Lewis on bass guitar, Freddie Butler on keyboards and Wigmore Francis on guitar.

Releases and songs

The group is best known for the hit records We Play Reggae and Back a Yard. Other reggae hits include His Majesty Is Coming and Born In Ethiopia. They record two albums, His Majesty Is Coming and Man From New Guinea, with the latter issued on Island Records.

Background and later work

Clevie Browne had previously been a member of The Browne Bunch. After The In Crowd, Fil Callendar continues with a solo career, and Browne later becomes part of Steely & Clevie, one of Jamaica's notable rhythm sections and production teams.
