The Iconyx

The Iconyx are a group from Torbay who are active from 2008 to 2011. They form when George and Matt meet while studying music practice at South Devon College and start the band together. They gain a local following quickly, first becoming the most popular band in the college and then building a strong reputation in Torbay through performances in local pubs and clubs.

Style and influences

The band play a pop-based style with plain English lyrics and highly melodic songs. Their sound is described as fitting into a line of British pop and indie music, with comparisons made to Madness, The Housemartins, Blur, The Streets, Lily Allen and Bombay Bicycle Club. Their songs are aimed at a generation born in the 1990s, with an emphasis on memorable, catchy tunes.
