The Hush
The Hush is a UK folk group from Manchester, United Kingdom. It forms in 2001, when Jed Grimes starts the project to record new arrangements of old folk songs from North East England.
Line-up
The group includes Jed Grimes on guitar and vocals, Bob Fox on guitar and vocals, Paul Smith on drums and percussion, Neil Harland on bass, Graham Wood on keyboards, and Garry Linsley on saxophone. Over time, the line-up varies and includes guest singers such as Judy Dinning, Benny Graham, Ray Stubbs and Jane Wade.
Background
The project focuses on reworking traditional material rather than writing entirely new songs, and its membership changes around a core group of musicians. The name is also shared by a separate short-lived 1960s band from Birmingham that later moves to London, but the UK folk group is the act associated with the Manchester origin.
