The Great Outdoors

The Great Outdoors is a Canadian indie, rap, hip-hop and ambient project that begins as the work of singer-songwriter Adam Nation. It develops from his early recordings, which combine 12 unconventional songs with street noise, conversations and bird song.

History

The project begins in 2000 with that first set of songs. In 2005, Nation releases a second album, A Scant Sixty-Three, and assembles a touring band. As the recording develops, more musicians join the sessions and the arrangements gain additional layers.

In 2007, the third album, Food, Booze and Entertainment, is released. The following year, the group issues four seasonal EPs, each containing three to five songs.

Line-up and style

The Great Outdoors starts as a solo project for Adam Nation before becoming a touring band. The music sits across hip-hop, indie, rap and ambient territory, and the recorded material makes use of field sounds and spoken conversation alongside song structure.
