THE GLORY
The Glory are a group associated with punk and Oi, with roots in Leicester, England and Atlanta, USA. The band forms in the mid-1980s and later re-forms in the United States. Their history links them to the British skinhead punk scene, with members also connected to other groups including Clockwork Soldiers, The New Breed, Anti Heroes, Condemned 84, Lithos and Blitzkrieg UK.
Early line-ups and formation
The band begins when members of The New Breed and The Clockwork Soldiers start working together. Timo, also known as Mark Timson, handles vocals and comes from Clockwork Soldiers. Mark Magee, also credited as Magit or Maghee, plays guitar and has previous links to The New Breed, Anti Heroes and Condemned 84. Early members include Daz on drums and Nick on bass, with later additions including John on bass, Jim on drums and Gaz Johnson on drums. Ajax appears on bass in one later line-up, and some members also come from Clockwork Soldiers.
The group initially uses the name Englands Glory, then changes it to The Glory after discovering that another band already has the name.
Releases and recording history
The Glory record their first album, Skins n Punks, in 1987 and tour the UK later that year. In 1988 they record a second album, We Are What We Are. During that recording, Tealeaf and Daz leave, but the album is completed and released. The band later records the same-titled album again on Link Records, and after further changes in personnel they split and re-form more than once.
A later line-up includes Timo, Mark Maghee, Allen Sullivan on bass and Amos on drums. In 2010 Timo and Magee tour the United States with two drummers, Amos and Gabe, and Allen Sullivan, who had played briefly in the band in England in the 1980s. By 2012 the group re-forms again with Timo, Tealeaf and Gaz plus a new guitarist. That line-up releases the single Nobody’s War and also puts out The Best of The Glory on the LAD label, a collection of songs from the first two albums with digital remixes.
Later activity
In 2010 the band is described as reformed in America for a ten-date tour with the Loose Skrews as support, and it is also working on a new album. Tealeaf is meanwhile based in Cyprus and playing bass in the rock band Lithos, while Gaz plays with Blitzkrieg UK. The Glory remain active in the United States.
