The Gangsters

The Gangsters are an Italian rock group active from 2012 to 2022. The name has also been used by earlier acts, including a Harlow-based UK group and an eight-piece world ska band formed in 1993, so the band name has been associated with more than one lineup and style.

Other uses of the name

One version of The Gangsters forms in Harlow, England, and runs from 1978 to 1980. That group includes Richard Holgarth on guitar and vocals, Bill Meadows on guitar and vocals, Allan Meadows or Terry Hardy on drums, Martin Holden on bass, and Steve Horton on keyboards. It is associated with UK power pop.

That Harlow group releases the single Record Company backed with Harlow Town in 1979 on Stortbeat, as well as a self-titled 12-inch LP in 1979 on Stortbeat Beat2LP, and the single Best Friend backed with Best Friend Dub in 1979 on Stortbeat Beat3.

Later lineup

Another act using the same name forms in 1993 by singer-songwriters Ziggy Lee Hall and Jimmy “Monty” LaMonte. This lineup is described as an eight-piece world ska band with originality placed at the centre of its sound.
