The Floozies
The Floozies are a German group from Solingen, identified in one description as a punk and ska act, and in another as a pop-garage-rock band from Solingen Rock City. The name is also used for other acts, but the group described here is the German one.
Style and activity
The group’s listed tags include funk, electronic, garage rock, rawk and dubstep, and one account describes their music as “funk for aliens”. Their sound is presented as wide-ranging, drawing on classic funk, hip-hop, dub, disco, electronica, afrobeat, jazz and film-score influences.
They form in January 2008 and consist of brothers Matt Hill and Mark Hill. Their performances are described as fully live, with no pre-recorded material and no samples, and their shows are said to rely on improvisation. Each performance is framed as a one-off event rather than a fixed set.
Releases and live work
One notable release is Live: Volume 1, a free download compilation drawn from 21 tracks recorded at shows around the country. The group also moves from local house parties to touring and playing alongside artists they regard as musical heroes.
Their live presentation is associated with a party atmosphere and visual elements including lasers, alongside the “alien” theme used in describing the act.
