The Feens
The Feens are a rock group from West Hamburg, Pennsylvania. They form when four musicians come together after previously working in individually successful projects. Their sound draws on a range of rock styles, including stoner rock, hard rock, alternative rock and indie rock, and they describe themselves as rooted in purist rock and roll.
Formation and line-up
The group begins with guitarist Zach Ernst and drummer Jared Kulp jamming together with the aim of finding a bassist who fits their sound. They recruit J. McCabe on bass, described as a forceful riff-led player, and then bring in singer-songwriter Mike Narvaez to help arrange the material. Narvaez soon becomes the frontman and lead vocalist. Matt Liptak later joins as drummer.
Music and influences
The Feens write original songs that reflect classic rock qualities such as extended guitar solos and improvisation. Their influences include Deep Purple, Captain Beyond, Budgie, Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. Their style is also marked by a backstreet rock and roll attitude that carries through their live performances.
Release history
The group’s debut album, Freshman, follows early in their career and earns a strong reception in their local scene, including the wider Lehigh Valley area.
