The Fear

The Fear is a hard rock group from the United States. The name also applies to other acts, but this group is the one identified as a melodic hardcore and punk-influenced band that begins as Death Defying Life and later takes the name The Fear. It develops in Yorkshire, drawing on punk and hardcore influences, and mixes old-school power with newer technical playing.

Style and sound

The band describes its music as technical, aggressive and intense while still melodic. Its sound sits within melodic hardcore, punk rock and skate punk, and it is associated with the UK punk and hardcore scene. The group is also presented as one of the stronger and more creative melodic hardcore acts in the United Kingdom.

Career

The Fear forms in 2004. After about eight months together, it completes a two-week tour of the United States, supporting Western Addiction and Kill The Messenger. In 2007 it undertakes its first European tour, opening twelve dates for MXPX and Zebrahead. In July 2011 it plays its first European headline tour in support of the seven-track EP Heavy Hearts & Bloodshot Eyes. In November of the same period, the band joins Lockjaw Records.

Releases

In spring 2012, The Fear releases its debut full-length album, Here Goes Nothing, on Lockjaw Records and Bells On Records in Japan. The earlier EP Heavy Hearts & Bloodshot Eyes is a key release in the run-up to the album.

Live work and touring

The band builds a reputation through high-energy live shows and extensive touring. Its live dates include club shows, headline appearances and support slots across Europe. It is also asked to open for Belvedere’s only European club show on that reunion tour, on a bill that also includes Counterpunch, Mute and Straightaway.
